MELVIN JUDD HUGHES
I was born on September 15, 1934 and am the first child of Leonard and Chyrrel Judd Hughes. I took after the Judd side of the family and was quite small. I graduated from Virgin Valley High School at five feet seven inches and weighing 107 pounds. Dad was a farmer and farming and cows are in my blood, too. I've spent most of my life right here in Virgin Valley as a farmer and dairyman.
After high school, I served my mission in the Great Lakes Mission and then spent a few years serving in the Army for Uncle Sam. While being stationed in Tacoma, Washington, I met my future wife, Ione Williams. She was actually from Salina, Utah, but was working in Tacoma. We were married on March 22, 1958 in the St. George Temple.
We have five children, three girls and two boys. Our daughter, RaNae was killed in a car accident when she was four years old. Our children are:
Deniece, born 14 July 1959
Brent Melvin, born 2 July 1960
Bruce Ernest, born10 January 1962
ReNae, born 5 November 1963, and killed 8 November 1968
Melanie, born 18 February 1967
They have given us 16 wonderful grandchildren whom we love very much. Our family is our great joy and we spend a lot of time with them and enjoying this beautiful country that we live in.
