KARA LYNNE HUGHES ALLAN
Hello! I am Kara Lynne Hughes Allan, third child of Leonard and Chyrrel Judd Hughes. I was raised in Mesquite, Nevada where I graduated from Virgin Valley High School in 1961. After attending Dixie College, I married Dennis K. Allan, the son of Blaine and Eva Harmer Allan.
We have seven children:
Sheri Lynne Allan, born January 9, 1963
Shauna Lee Allan, born November 7, 1964
Stuart K. Allan, born February 4, 1966
Stanley K. Allan, born February 25, 1974
Shanda Laree Allan, born June 27, 1976
Shaylene Allan, born February 19, 1979
Stephen K. Allan, born July 31, 1980
At this time, January 2003, we are expecting our 27th grandchild!
My husband graduated from Brigham Young University in 1967, and then worked for the United States Forest Service for 32 years before retiring in 1997. We've lived in Utah and Arizona during the past 40 years.
After retiring, my husband and I were called to serve in the Nauvoo Restoration Inc. Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. While there, I worked at the Land and Records office and became acquainted with many of my deceased ancestors as I read and studied their journals and diaries. My husband is a blacksmith and wheelwright and was able to use his talents to rebuild all of the old wagons and buggies that have been stored in barns and garages in Nauvoo. He restored eight wagons, two buggies, a 16 passenger bobsleigh and numerous tools and equipment while we were there. We had a most wonderful time serving as missionaries and hope to be able to serve many more missions in the near future!
Since returning from our mission, we have bought a home in Cedar City and are really enjoying serving as Ordinance workers in the St. George Temple one day a week.
We spend many happy hours with our large and still growing family.
